A new AI movie (warning, spoilers are in the link) Ex Machina is being released this weekend. Who’s going to see it?
We meet at Bobby G’s Pizzeria on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from Noon to 3PM in Berkeley near the Downtown Berkeley BART station. Bobby G’s is on University Ave near Shattuck Ave. We hope you join us, join the discussion on our email list and/or join us in #berkeleylug on freenode.net by following the tabs at the top.
I looked for a theater but couldn’t find one. I’m not alone. There was only a limited release in four theaters this weekend in LA and New York. Reddit has a thread too. The wider release comes on the 24th.
I first heard about this last week from a daily audio podcast. Here’s the link. http://www.marketplace.org/topics/tech/ex-machina-imagines-robot-indistinguishable-man
Just from the Ex Machina spoiler alert, the film hearkens back 33 years ago to another pair of films from that same year (1982). One was the film Android (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_%28film%29 , http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083557/ ) and the other was the film Blade Runner (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner , http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083658/ ) starring the Star Wars Trilogy-era Harrison Ford.
Anyone else remember either of these android-related films produced back in 1982??
Here’s a washington Post article about Chappie and Ex Machina’s Ava.

Ex Machina is playing in the bay area now. I’m going to see it.
